Green Apple Environmental Award

We are proud to announce that Staysafe PPE has won the prestigious Green Apple Environmental Award for our PPE Recycling Service.

The award is in recognition of our sustainable approach to PPE recycling. Each tonne of textiles manufactured generates 14.7 tonnes of CO2e. We have saved in excess of 150,000 tonnes from landfill and unnecessary destruction since our inception in 2016. Shredding and repurposing is common, but we are extending the life of PPE. As well as our sustainability drive, we are saving companies as much as 70% in new PPE spend. Staysafe PPE is also addressing global supply chain shortages by washing for re-use. https://pperecycling.co.uk/financial-benefits

This Green Apple Environmental Award focuses on our waste management. All PPE we handle supports the circular economy and reduces PPE waste for all of our customers, many of whom have won awards for using our PPE recycling service. We disinfect, inspect and return PPE to source, but PPE which fails inspection is disposed of sustainably, prolonging the textiles’ life as long as possible. We send washed PPE single fibre rejects to be shredded and re-purposed. Diverse uses range from relief blankets, insulation materials, plastic membranes or liners for the old Victorian sewage pipes. Sadly mixed fibres have to be collected for energy regeneration from waste, but again, because it is clean waste, it uses far less energy than HTI destruction for contaminated waste. We donate a proportion of gloves and unbranded PPE which isn’t wanted by their owners to charities. Martineau Gardens, Bridgnorth and Erdington Litterpickers, Cycle for Good and Crowsmill Craft Centre have all saved their resources by using washed PPE. We have signed up to the West Midlands Net Zero Pledge;https://www.wmca.org.uk and for companies looking to do the same, washing your PPE for re-use is a great start! We offer a free trial to assess the savings we could realise for you so call us and start your commitment to Net Zero.
